Final Year Project
Project Title
Navigating Climate Anxiety in Karachi"s Higher Education Institutes
Description
It investigates the mental health impacts of climate change exposure among undergraduate students in Karachi, Pakistan. Using a mixed-methods approach with 34 survey respondents and two interviews, the research explores correlations between media exposure to climate crises and anxiety levels. Key findings reveal a positive link, with news media having the strongest association. Female students reported higher anxiety than males. The study highlights the need for universities to implement coping strategies, such as problem-focused (activism) and meaning-focused (hope-building) approaches, to mitigate climate anxiety. Recommendations include educational interventions and fostering collective efficacy to empower students. Limitations include a small, non-representative sample, suggesting broader future research. The project underscores the urgency of addressing climate anxiety in youth through institutional support.
